1993 Fender Jaguar ’66 Reissue MIJ
A quarter century old, grunge-era Fender Japan Jaguar ’66 Reissue in custom colour, Lake Placid Blue with matching headstock in excellent condition, it must have escaped the guitar-smashing Nirvana led ripped jean masses. There’s just something cool about an offset guitar – and it smells like teen spirit…
Guitar features: Serial N082178 / alder body / maple neck / rosewood fingerboard with 7. 25 radius / Jaguar tremolo with arm/ original control knobs and lead and rhythm switching system / 3-ply red tortoiseshell pickguard / original tuners / original Fender single coil pickups and electronics
Fender Japan started production in 1982 with guitars being marked as Made in Japan until 1993, when production began to move to Dyna Gakki factory and were marked as Crafted in Japan. Built at the FujiGen factory in Japan to vintage ’66 specs, this Made in Japan Jaguar is in quite rare custom Lake Placid Blue paint finish with matching headstock – a feature seen more usually in later Crafted in Japan period models. Lovely golden coloured almost flame maple neck, its a striking instrument that feels great in the hand, and a clever pickup system, that gives a wide range of sonic options from surf twang to warm jazzy blues.
Any issues? Well, the red tort pickguard looks like it’s had some extra rounding (talking mm’s) at the top of the neck slot. Plenty of life in the frets, truss rod turning, neck straight. It has been well looked after with few small dimples, and scuffs. but any guitar that survived the grunge-era period this cleanly deserves respect. There is a small paint chip in the headstock that has been touched up. The clearcoat on the headstock looks like it has yellowed a bit more on the headstock than the body giving the headstock a slightly greener tone than the body, which is cool looking. Complete with tremolo arm, this is a quality built Japanese beauty in a scarce custom colour. More photographs to come.
Comes with black gig bag.
